Lowell Neale Biel, 87, Fargo, died on Tuesday, December 20 in Vibra Hospital of Fargo.
Lowell was born in Java, SD on August 26, 1935, to parents Fred C. Biel and Dorothy (Huber) Biel. Upon high school graduation in Java, he attended the Railroad Telegraph School and became Depot Agent and Telegraph Operator in Bowman, ND. He moved to Bismarck, ND where he leased and operated a gas station (one of the two gas stations on the newly opened interstate 94) for about 3 years. He then moved to Fargo in 1970 and owned The Guidepost Mobil on Main Avenue and University. He went to work for the City of Fargo in street maintenance, retiring in 1997. Lowell loved to fish in Minnesota and North Dakota lakes, Lake Sakakawea and Devils Lake being his all-time favorites. He married Violet Simpson on July 27, 1970 in Sisseton, SD.
Lowell is survived by son, Mark (Joyce) Biel, Bismarck, ND; daughter, Danielle (Darrell) Bosch, Bismarck, ND; grandkids, Kara (Brian) Kniert, Mari (Sam) Golden, Alexis and Jordan Bosch; great-grandkids, Steven and Reagan Kniert, and Andrea and Melanie Golden; niece, Vanessa Goehring; nephews, Greg and Toby Biel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl; sister, Allegra Hirsch; wife, Violet; stepson, Dale Lukes; step-granddaughter Kathy Lukes.
