Lorene Ruth Currier passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family under the care of SMP Health (Villa Maria) on May 5, 2022.
Lorene Currier was born on January 10, 1929, to Wesley and Ruth (Holmquist) Smillie in Fargo, ND. She attended Fargo Central High School and went on to graduate from North Dakota State University.
Lorene married Richard "Dick" Currier on May 20, 1950, at Elim Lutheran Church in Fargo. They met on a blind date. They made their home in Fargo. Lorene was very musical and taught piano lessons. She was the band instructor at Shanley High School for 4 years. After that, she did the accounting work for Dakota Fence Company, a family business that first started out in their home in 1972. In retirement, she and Dick went on many trips with their son, Dan, and his family and enjoyed traveling. She loved Pelican Lake, where her parents had a cabin when she was growing up. She enjoyed summers there with her other son, Dave, and his family.
She is survived by her two sons, David (Kay) and Daniel (Mickie), both from Fargo; 5 grandchildren: Joseph (Becky) Currier, John Currier, Amy (Josh) Mickelson, Erica (Kyle) Argall, all of Fargo; and Adam (Heidi) Currier of Edina, MN. She had 11 great-grandchildren: Caroline and Bennett Currier; Henry, Roy, Reese, and Fredrik Mickelson; Emma, Alexandra, and Jack Currier; and Cody and Claire Argall.
Lorene was a 75-year member of Gamma Phi Beta and a member of Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) at NDSU. She was an active member of the NDSU Music Club and a member of the Fine Arts Club of Fargo. Lorene enjoyed cross-stitching and made many special pieces for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook, and she always had the best brownies sitting on her kitchen counter for her kids and grandkids to grab when they stopped by. She even made her brownies at Villa Maria!
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Marilyn Pfau; and her brother, Roy Smillie.
The Currier families would like to thank SMP Health (Villa Maria) for their gentle care in the last months of her life. The family has designated the Shrine Children's Hospital for memorial contributions.
A funeral service for Lorene will be Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at First Lutheran Church, Fargo, North Dakota. Visitation will take place an hour prior. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
