Loren Sammy Dockter was born January 30, 1936 to Samuel and Luella Dockter at St. Ansgar's Hospital in Moorhead, MN. He grew up in Fargo and, after graduating from Fargo High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After finishing his military service, Loren returned to Fargo and married Karol Kay Hanson; together, they raised 5 children. Loren attended NDSU and joined the North Dakota Air National Guard. He then joined the Fargo Police Department starting in radio car and motorcycle patrol. He held various positions with FPD including patrol, foot beat, narcotics investigations, detective, and radio dispatch. He was seriously injured in the line of duty in a motor vehicle accident while escorting an ambulance to a different accident. After leaving the police department as a sergeant, he continued serving others by becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. Loren worked hard to provide for his family, often working multiple jobs.
Loren passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. He is survived by his wife, Karol; and children, Craig, Donna, Karyn, and Troy. He follows his parents, Sam and Luella, and daughter, Traci.
