Lois Susan (Moen) Scharf, 82, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025.
Lois lived a full life centered around home and family, with a vibrant wit and knack for getting things done. Lois was born in Devils Lake, ND (1942), where she grew up on the family farm and graduated from high school (1960). Lois attended Devils Lake Junior College and Valley City State College, ND. Lois married James (Jim) Scharf (1963). With a BS Degree in math and biology (1965), she became a teacher of junior and senior high school math, impacting many students over a 25-year career, teaching at schools in Fergus Falls, Larimore, Fordville and Grand Forks. With a passion for homebuilding, interior design and gardening, Lois and Jim made their family home a special place for raising children in a wooded river setting outside of Larimore, ND. Growing up on a rural farm, Lois carried those life experiences to her home, tending to abundant garden harvests and a large yard. In 2000, Lois and Jim retired to their newly-built custom home in Pagosa Springs, CO, with frequent visits from their children and grandchildren, enjoying the mountainous recreation. Later, with a desire to move back to ND, they returned to Fargo in 2012, to which Lois enjoyed remodeling, decorating, gardening, sewing, reading, games, and puzzles. In Fargo, Lois spent much time with her children and grandchildren, sharing holidays and visits, making wonderful memories together. Lois was very supportive to her family in life's ups and downs, and took pride in always sending birthday and anniversary wishes to loved ones.
Lois is survived by her four children, Robert (Irish Wong), Jon (Jen Reussé), Janna (Rick Engebretson), and Jason (Tracy); her nine grandchildren, Brandon (Aura), Chad (Jordan), Kayla, Jared (Lily Shouldis), Matthew (Bri), Ben (Lais), Corey, Jackson, and Kate; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Duane and Roger (Diana) Moen; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Scharf; other family members, friends, and dog Sophie.
