Lois R. Kirk, a beloved homemaker and devoted member of the community, peacefully departed from this world on Thursday, September 14, 2023, under the care of SMP Health St. Catherine-South, in Fargo, ND, at the age of 86. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 1 PM to 2 PM, followed by her 2 PM memorial service at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fargo. Burial will be held in Devils Lake City Cemetery in Devils Lake, ND. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo.

Lois Rae Platts was born in Devils Lake, ND, on January 9, 1937, to Cady and Albena (Zyllo) Platts. She grew up there and attended Devils Lake High School, graduating in 1954. She furthered her education by attending one year at North Dakota State University and one year at the New York Hairdressing Academy, Fargo. Lois met the love of her life, Glen Kirk, at Devils Lake in 1953. They were united in marriage on September 9, 1955, in Devils Lake, ND. Together, they had three children: June, Marian, and Douglas.

Lois’s unwavering dedication did not stop within the confines of her own home. She was deeply involved in her community, offering her time and energy to various local initiatives and causes. She was a Make it Yourself with Wool ND contest winner. She was involved in theatre productions in Bottineau, ND. She was a 4H leader in Devils Lake and Fargo, ND. She was the owner and operator of Ye Olde Hair Shoppe in Fargo and Bottineau, ND.

Her memory will live on through her loving husband of 68 years, Glen Kirk; children, June (Philip) Nelson, of West Fargo, ND; Marian “Cady” (Chris) Halverson, of Boulder, CO; daughter-in-law, Kaye Lystad Kirk, of Fargo, ND; sister, Elizabeth Hardee, of Cheney, WA; and other loving family members and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Kirk; parents, Cady and Albena Platts; and brothers, Thomas Platts, and Richard Platts.
