LoAnn Kana, 90, of Fargo, North Dakota passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
Barbara LoAnn Burman Kana was born in Hope, ND on June 28, 1933. She was adopted at 7 months of age by Esther (Lundeen) and Martin Burman of Grand Forks. She grew up and attended schools in Grand Forks and graduated from UND with a major in Music and English. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and participated in various musical organizations and stage productions.
In 1955 LoAnn married her high school sweetheart Dale Kana. She taught school in Oslo and Crookston, MN before moving to Kansas City where Dale attended The University of Kansas Medical School. LoAnn taught school while they lived there and was a soloist in a local church. In 1964 they moved to Fargo. LoAnn was an avid bridge player, golfer and she was very proud of her accomplishments as a curler. She was an active board member in several organizations including 20 years with the FM Civic Opera Company where she held several offices, sang in the chorus as well as supporting roles.
LoAnn loved to cook, bake and entertain. She loved welcoming guests into her home where you can bet each meal ended with a very large piece of pie, which was her specialty. Anyone that knew LoAnn will remember her quick wit always tinged with the perfect amount of sarcasm which continued throughout her later stages of Alzheimers and her final days at Sanford Hospice House. She was still entertaining those around her in her final days.
LoAnn was preceded in death by her husband Dale to whom she was married for 58 years. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Morin and Lori Kana of Fargo, Barbara (Todd) Helser of DeWitt, MI and grandchildren Dale Peter Morin, Madeline and Max Helser.
