Linda Zimmerman, age 77, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, September 18.
Linda Rae Zimmerman was born May 29, 1947, to Ardell and Gudrun Zimmerman (Henrikson). Linda graduated from Cando High School in 1965. With her warm and engaging personality, she was elected Homecoming Queen her senior year. After high school, Linda went on to attend Valley City State Teacher’s College and later earned her master’s degree in school administration. Linda spent most of her career in Walhalla, a community she loved. She dedicated her time there to teaching and caring for her students, mentoring teachers as elementary principal, and tutoring those studying for a GED.
Upon retirement from education, Linda moved to Fargo and continued to help others in her work at Prairie St. John’s, making many lasting friendships during her time there. When fully retired, Linda enjoyed spending time with friends, family, and her pets, knitting her signature dishcloths, watching Bison and Vikings football, and keeping up with former students and colleagues.
Linda’s life was defined by her kindness and service to others. Linda was loved and respected by her former students and impacted many lives during her years in education. Despite her short stature, Linda had a big heart, an effervescent personality, and made a giant impact on those in her life.
Linda will be remembered as a loving sister, dear aunt, a true friend to many, an excellent teacher and principal, and a caring mentor to her students. Those who shared in her life include her brothers, Gary Zimmerman, Arden Hills, MN and Jon (Nancee) Zimmerman, Reno, NV and her sister, Debra Zimmerman, Fargo, ND; nephews, David (Dean) Zimmerman, Roseville, MN, and Dustin Zimmerman, Reno, NV and niece, Tara (Jim) Swegarden, Minot, ND; and great nephews, Thor Zimmerman and Noah Swegarden, and great niece, Jara (Kieran) Swegarden; best friend of nearly 60 years, Kathleen Callahan (Jim) Carpenter, Walhalla, ND. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Ardell and Gudrun, and her sister-in-law, Sandra Zimmerman.
Services will be held Friday, September 27 at 10:00 am at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home Chapel in Fargo. The service will be livestreamed for public viewing and a link can be accessed on the Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home website.
