Linda Darlene Kemp, 68, of rural Argusville, ND passed away peacefully on Oct 23, 2021 surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Linda was born on August 2, 1953, in Lisbon, ND to Jerauld and Darlene Joubert. She spent most of her childhood in Lisbon attending Lisbon Public Schools until the family moved to Staples, MN where she graduated high school. Linda went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from NDSCS in 1993.
Linda married Marvin Kemp in 1971 and had three children. They lived in Staples and later moved to Fargo, ND. Linda worked hard throughout her entire life. She held many jobs over the years at IBM, Avedon and General Nutrition where she met Marty Cantler. Linda and Marty welcomed a daughter in 1985. They moved out to her beloved family farm in rural Argusville where she raised her children. Although they never married, Marty and Linda shared life for over 25 years and loved each other deeply. Marty passed away in 2014 of cancer.
Linda was a devoted and caring nurse for many years. For the past 10 years, she worked for Sanford Home Health caring for young children. Over the past few years, Linda was able to travel to Africa several times with her friend, Tom, where they enjoyed hunting trips together. They also went on many motorcycle rides together around the US.
Linda was a jack of all trades. She knew how to hang sheetrock, wire electricity in a home, shingle a roof and had more power tools than Bob Vila. She baked, cooked, canned, sewed, quilted and was very artistic. She could play the accordion and was a black belt in Jujitsu. She loved margaritas and Twisted Teas. Linda was a proud big sister being the oldest of eight children. Spending time with her sisters was always full of laughter and love.
Linda’s pride and absolute joy were her children and grandchildren. She loved attending her grandchildren’s various activities where she was often heard cheering loudly. She would, and did, do anything for her family. Linda would have given her last dollar to you if you needed it. She put everyone else before herself. Linda didn’t have the best of everything, but she made the best of everything she had.
Linda is survived by her children: Marvin Holm (Terri), Hunter, ND; Lisa Hockenberry (Steve), Sioux Falls, SD; Shawn Cantler (Jenny), Fargo, ND and Sara Cantler Mead, Fargo, ND; her Grandchildren: Chelsea (Jason), Caleb, Hunter, Peyton, Emma, Hanna, Olivia, Carson, Myles, Ryland, Sylas, Elsy, and Kyler; sisters: Marsha Schindler (Doug), Carol Wierema (Russ), Diane Mueller (Tom), Teresa Gunther (Steve), Jadene Truckey (Dan) and Lois Waggoner (Allan) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Darlene; her brother Duane Joubert; nephew Jeffrey Mueller; Marty Cantler and a very special little boy named Ryker, that she took care of for many years.
