Levi Parmer

Levi Parmer, 84, of Fargo, ND, died on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Essentia Health, Fargo. Levi Quentin Parmer was born May 24, 1927 to Joseph and Thea (Bakke) Parmer in Wildrose, North Dakota. The family moved to Pekin, North Dakota, when Levi was eight years old. He graduated from Pekin High School and went into the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at Guiaun Samar in the Phillipines. After completing his tour of duty, he moved to Fargo. He graduated from Interstate Business College and immediately went to work in the offices of Fargo Glass and Paint Company. He worked in the wholesale glass division and became manager of dealer sales. He retired from the company after 42 years. Levi married Ruth Hawes in Crookston, Minnesota, June 6, 1948. They had one son, Jeffrey David. Levi was a member of First United Methodist Church and served in many capacities through the years. He also had been a member of the “Y” Men’s Club, Eagles, American Legion, Sons of Norway, Golden K Kiwanis and the Red River Valley Senior Golf Tournament. He was past president of Fargo Lions Club and served on the Board of the Fargo Senior Commission. Levi enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, reading, traveling and doing volunteer work. He delivered Meals on Wheels for twelve years, prior to his stroke. Levi is survived by his wife, Ruth, Fargo, ND; son, Jeff (Elizabeta) Parmer, Heidelberg, Germany; granddaughters, Meredith and Olivia; brother, Dwayne Parmer, Beaverton, OR; and sister, Viola McDonald, Seattle, WA; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russell, Warren and Joe; and sister, Thelma Gurke. Funeral Service: Thursday, May 3, 2012, at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, Fargo. Visitation: Wednesday, May 2, 2012, from 5-7 PM at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
