Leonard Linstad, 94, Fargo, North Dakota died on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at his home.
Leonard Melford Linstad was born on September 28, 1919 in Adams, ND to Magnus and Caroline Linstad. Leonard grew up attending country school. He worked on a family farm in Walsh County until the start of World War II. Leonard joined the Army Air Force and went to Boeing Aircraft School in Seattle, Washington. After training, he became a B17 Flying Fortress Technician. He served in the European Theatre during the war.
After the war, Leonard came back to North Dakota and settled down in Fargo. He enrolled at Hanson Mechanical Trade School for auto repair. Leonard worked for Fargo Chevrolet dealerships until his retirement.
Leonard married Dorothy Iverson on August 23, 1947. He and Dorothy were long-time members of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, and many bowling teams over the years. Leonard and Dorothy enjoyed their many travels around the country after their retirement.
Leonard and Dorothy raised two sons, both of Fargo: Paul (Cindy) and Dean (Sherie). Leonard is survived by seven grandchildren: Jayne (Mike) Baraky, Jennifer (Matt) Braun, Jonathan Linstad, Katie Linstad (Brian Fix), Sarah Linstad (Justin Whitecalfe), Alex Linstad, Leroy Linstad, and one great-grandchild, Eleanor Linstad Whitecalfe.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, and seven brothers and sisters.
Visitation is 5-7 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, December 17, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home.
