Leona Marie Weist, 85, of Fargo, ND, died after fighting cancer for over ten years, Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Sanford Health, Fargo. Leona Marie Schmit was born January 12, 1926, in Kenmare, North Dakota, daughter of Joseph and Anna Marie (Fromlath) Schmit. She grew up in Kenmare and Lisbon, North Dakota, graduating from Lisbon High School in 1944. Leona moved to Long Beach, California, to help with the war effort. It was there she met her husband of 65 years, Floyd Weist. They were married June 28, 1946, in Orange, Texas. After Floyd’s discharge from the Navy, they settled in Fargo and raised their family. Leona worked as a secretary for the U.S. Government. Leona touched many people’s lives with her kindness and generosity and loved the Lord Jesus deeply. She enjoyed spending time with her family and will be greatly missed. Her Tuesday coffee group was very special to her for many years. She gave so much love to all of her children. She is survived by her husband, Floyd, Fargo, ND; and six children, daughter, Carolee (Jerry) Hill, San Diego, CA; Sandra (Brian) Swor; son, Steven Weist; daughter, Linda Cebulski; son, Troy (Karen) Weist; son, Jay Weist, all of Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren, Christopher (Nicole) Elleraas, San Diego, CA; Tamara Swor, Leonard, ND; Jeffrey (Suzanne) Elleraas, Lakeside, CA; Kimberly Coon, St. Louis Park, MN; Lane Cebulski, Seeley Lake, MT; Adam Swor; Calli Cebulski; Andrew Weist; Joseph Weist; Jacob Weist, and Elizabeth Weist, all of Fargo, ND; step-grandson, Jason (Jen) Hill, San Diego, CA; six great-grandchildren, Noah and Olivia Coon, both of St. Louis Park, MN; Katelyn and Ryan Elleraas, both of Lakeside, CA; Ava and Ethan Elleraas, both of San Diego, CA; and her brother, Walter Schmit, Lisbon, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Edward, Leo and Cyril Schmit. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The Village Family Services, Fargo. Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, December 9, 2011, at 10:30 AM, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Fargo. Visitation: Thursday, December 8, 2011, from 5:30 ~ 7:30 PM, with a Prayer Vigil at 7:30 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo. Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery ~ North, Fargo.
