Leona A. Kuske, 100, died Sunday, September 9, 2012, at Elim Care Center in Fargo. She had been living independently in her home until a recent injury.
Leona was born on December 26, 1911, on a farm near Wells, MN, to parents Paul and Kristina (Holland) Sahr. She was the eldest of her siblings Evelyn, Ervin, and Raymond. The family moved to Jamestown, ND, when Leona was four. Leona attended a country school through the 8th grade and later lived with her grandparents in Jamestown where she attended high school. After high school, Leona attended college and earned a teaching degree, though she always said that she had wanted to be a nurse.
Leona met Milton Kuske in high school and they were later married on October 17, 1932. They moved to Fargo in 1941 and raised two sons, Donald and Duane. Leona was a wonderful cook, gardener, quilter, seamstress, and held a great love for antiques. She and Milton owned Antiques Etc. in Fargo and traveled the country while working on their own extensive collection. She was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Fargo, where she sang in the choir and was active in the Women’s Circle.
Leona was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt. She was loved and appreciated by her family, whom she had taught how to work hard and make the most of what they have. She will be forever missed.
Leona is survived by her sons Donald and Duane, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 15, at 2:00pm at Calvary United Methodist Church located at 4575 45th Street South in Fargo.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
