Leon A. Robinson, 87, of Moorhead, MN, died Monday, April 22, 2013 at his home in Moorhead.
Leon Robinson was born February 26, 1926 to parents Oliver and Thilga (Johnson) Robinson in Fargo, ND.
He worked for the railroad from 1948-1988, first for Great Northern and later for Burlington Northern. He was an excellent self-taught musician who learned how to play first on a steel guitar and then on a regular guitar. Outside of his fulltime job with the railroad, he played in a band called The Minnesota Wood Choppers. They played on a local radio station and also at dance jobs on the weekends. He loved his music very much, as it was a big part of his life.
Leon was also a superb artist who could draw and sketch anything. He was a big fan of the NDSU Bison football team. He held season tickets and would attend as many games as he could. He loved the sport and would talk about the team a lot.
He is survived by his only child, daughter Rita Alexander of Montrose, CO; step-son Kyle (Dorothy) Barnard of West Fargo, ND; Kris and Kevin Campbell; six grandchildren, Bradley, Brett (Micki), Sara, and Charlie Barnard, and Scott and Shelly (Nick Kosen) Campbell; and four great-grandchildren, Brittany, Caitlin, Donnie, and Marissa.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Richard Steven Gaffney.
Leon’s sign off on his cards and letters was “Happy trails to you”. Until we meet again, Dad. You will be so missed.
