Lavonna Mae Powell

Born May 22, 1954. Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, November 3, 2022, in
Fargo, ND. LaVonna was born in Mountain Home, Idaho to Keith and Marlyce Berlin. They later moved
to Moorhead, MN.
LaVonna graduated from Moorhead High School in 1972. She continued her education at Northwest
Technical College – Moorhead where she received her degree in Medical Secretary/Transcription in
1973.
After graduating, she went to work at TNI Clinic as a Medical Secretary for Lee A. Christoferson, M.D.
from 1973 to 1978. She then went on to work at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, St.
John’s Hospital, and the City of Moorhead Law Enforcement Center. She finished off her career
working at Meritcare until she retired in 2008. LaVonna was known as one of the fastest typists in the
area.
LaVonna met the love of her life Jeffrey (Duffy) Powell in 1970 dragging Broadway. They were married
on December 6, 1975. They made their home in Fargo, ND and had three children, Shantel, Jennah,
and Jeffrey (Billy).
LaVonna enjoyed baking, ceramics, crafting, sewing, and most importantly spending time with her
family.
LaVonna was well known for the love and pride she had for her husband, children, grandchildren,
siblings, and many friends. She was always considered the life of the party.
The joy of LaVonna’s life was spending time with her family at the lake and attending all her
grandchildren’s activities. She enjoyed her many vacations with her family. She often mentioned her
kids and grandkids are what she lived for. There is a reason why people called her Lovey.
LaVonna and her family were proud members of Peace Lutheran Church. She led with faith and
encouraged her children and grandchildren to confirm their faith as well. If anyone needed anything, LaVonna was always there for support.
LaVonna was preceded in death by her mother Marlyce (Strand) Berlin, her father Keith Berlin, and
two brothers Doug and Kent Berlin. She is survived by her husband Jeffrey (Duffy) Powell, three
children, Shantel (Chad) Herr, Jennah Kelly (Shaun Bender), Jeffrey (Billy) Powell, seven grandchildren,
Kia, Cade, Jadah, Lauren, Emmah, Corah, Kaylee, four siblings Gary, Cheryl Evanson, Mike, Kevin
(Rochelle), David and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
