LaVon Malusky, 90, of Fargo, ND passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Eventide Nursing Home in Fargo.
LaVon was born to Ole and Clara (Knutson) Severtsen on April 24, 1926 in Zahl, North Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She received her schooling in Zahl and graduated high school in 1944. She then attended Success Business College in Bellingham, WA. She returned to Williston and became employed at the County Agents Office. She later was employed at the Farmers Union Lumber Company and worked there for 10 years.
LaVon came from a very musical family which led her to become a talented singer and piano player. She could play just about anything by ear. Over the years, she played piano and organ for many church and social functions. When she had to move to a studio apartment at Touchmark a few years ago, she had to sell her piano which was a sad time for her as the piano had always been her passion.
She married B.J. (Barney) Malusky on August 8, 1953 in Williston, ND. In 1955 they moved to White Bear Lake, MN where they lived until Barney retired in 1982. They then moved to Bismarck, ND and later to Fargo, ND to be closer to family. Barney passed away in 2001.
LaVon resided at Touchmark at Harwood Groves for 13 years and most recently at Eventide Nursing Home. LaVon’s eyesight began to fail which lead to the move to Touchmark. She could see very little at the time of her death. When talking about LaVon to those who knew her, they always commented on her cheerfulness and good nature despite the fact that she could not see. It was extremely rare to hear her complain.
She is survived by her daughter, Colleen, Fargo, ND; sister, Julaine Zavalney, Williston, ND; sister-in-law, Rosemary Sieracki, Bismarck, ND; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; her brothers, Irving, Sylvan, and Duane; and infant sister, Sylvia.
The family would like to thank the wonderful care LaVon received at Touchmark over the years by the nurses and CNA staff and, even though she was there for only a short time, the staff at Eventide nursing home in Fargo.
A family graveside service is planned for May 20, 2017 in Williston, ND.
