Laverne "Joe" Joseph Fry
December 24, 1941 — December 11, 2016
L. Joe Fry, 74, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Dickinson, ND, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.
LaVerne Joseph Fry was born December 24, 1941 in South Cottonwood Township, ND to Nickolas and Mabel (Dahl) Fry. He grew up in Fessenden, ND, graduating from Fessenden High School in 1959. Joe joined the US Army after graduation and served until 1964.
On February 27, 1965, Joe married Joyce Strauss in Harvey, ND. He graduated from the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND, after which he attained his Masters Degree in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Joe worked for Stark County and the State of ND Department of Human Services, retiring as the Administrator of the Badlands Human Service Center in 2002.
Joe had many interests and hobbies including fishing, hunting, collecting, horse racing, traveling with family and friends, and painting and drawing. Joe’s most special gifts he gave to us were his generosity, deeds and words that positively impacted our lives and made us feel significant.
Joe is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Todd Fry, Fargo, ND; Troy (Nancy) Fry, Chicago, IL; three grandchildren, Kristin (Isaac) Berling; Alyssa Amstrup, Bailee Jo Fry; sister-in-law, Shirley Fry; and five brother-in-laws who were like brothers to him.
He was preceded in death by his baby daughter, Stephanie Jane; parents; step-father; and brothers, James and Leland Fry.
Funeral Mass: 3pm, Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, West Fargo, ND.
Visitation: 5-7pm, Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.
Vigil Service: 7:00pm, Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial: 12pm, Friday, December 16, 2016 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
