Lavern “Lee” Rohla, age 83, of Fargo, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Innovis Hospital. Lavern Barnick was born September 11, 1925, to Herman and Amelia (Steinborn) Barnick in Jud, ND. She graduated from Rogers (ND) High School and worked at Montgomery Ward in Valley City. She worked as an X-ray technician after training at Miller Hospital, St. Paul, MN. Lee married Harold Phillips on June 10, 1947. She worked as a bookkeeper in Chippewa Falls, WI, and Minneapolis, MN. Lee married Ted Rohla in Minneapolis on May 23, 1964. In 1967, they moved to Fargo, where Lee worked at Dakota Hospital and later Gate City Bank. In 1971, Lee and Ted moved to Whitefish, Montana. In 1996, Lee returned to Fargo to be closer to her sons and their families. Lee was a member of the Fine Arts Club, Eastern Star, and was treasurer of the Prairieview Estates Association. She loved entertaining and going out with friends. She was an exceptional hostess and always made everyone feel welcome in her home. She took great pride and joy in being a mother and grandmother. Lee is survived by her twin sons and their families: Richard and Debra Rohla (Fargo) and grandsons, Benjamin (Madison, WI), Robert (Louisville, KY), and William (Fargo); and Robert and Mary Rohla (Fargo) and granddaughters, Andrea (John) Telega (St. Cloud, MN) and Emily (Minneapolis); nephew, Tom Wendland (Boca Raton, FL); sister-in-law, Marguerite McInerny (Colfax, WA); and sister-in-law, Chris Lane, (Tosten, MT). She is also survived by many good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; her parents, Herman Barnick and Ameila and Andy Hartman; and her sister, Esther Wendland.
