Laurie Dawn Brooks

Laurie Brooks, 59, of Moorhead, MN, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.

Laurie Dawn Amundson was born January 11, 1957 in Starbuck, MN to Maurice and Audrey (Ross) Amundson. She grew up on the family farm in Starbuck and graduated from high school there in 1975. She also earned her private pilots license while she was in high school. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN where she played basketball and graduated with honors in 1979. Upon graduation, she embarked on her 36-year teaching career, starting in Hinckley, MN and then in Lake Park-Audubon School District. While at Lake Park she coached girls volleyball and basketball. Laurie received a Masters Degree in Education from Southwest State University in Minnesota.

Laurie married Richard Brooks on June 21, 1980 at East Zion Lutheran Church in rural Starbuck, MN. They made their home in Oakport Township and Moorhead, MN. Laurie was a loving mother to Patrick, Daniel, and Kirsten, who preceded her in death.

Laurie is survived by her husband of 35 years, Dick; mother, Audrey Amundson; brothers, Ted (Lu Anne) Amundson, Hastings, MN; Ross (Michele) Amundson, Eden Valley, MN; sister, Connie (John Kanetomi) Amundson, Seattle, WA; brothers-in-law, Tom (Kathy) Brooks; Greg (Pam) Brooks, Mike (Cathy) Brooks, all of Saint Paul, MN; sister-in-law, Cindy Vennes, Thief River Falls, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her three children; and her father, Maurice.
