Laurice Loberg

Laurice L. Loberg, 95, of Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo. Laurice L. Loberg was born July 27, 1915, to Gustav and Matilda (Hanson) Loberg in Delamere, North Dakota. He grew up on farms with his parents and 12 siblings. In 1930, they moved into Fargo and Laurice graduated from high school at NDSU at age 15. Laurice worked at Hosler Picking Company in West Fargo and later at Amour & Company, with four of his brothers. In 1939, he met his future wife Alice Risan. They loved to go dancing at the Merry-Go-Round in Moorhead and, throughout their lives, they became very active in local square dance clubs. Laurice served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1962, attaining the rank of Lt. Col. He served in the states and overseas including France and Germany, 1944-45; Alaska, 1947-48; Japan 1950-1952; and Korea, 1954-55. On March 24, 1947, he married the love of his life, Alice Risan. They lived many places including Alaska; Lincoln, NE; Fort Benning, GA; New Orleans, LA; Ft. Smith, AK; and Omaha, NE, before settling in Fargo in 1962. Returning to Fargo after his military career, he decided to go into the real estate business. He started his career with Sweeney Realty in Fargo in 1963. He sold over 50 houses his first year. In 1964, he and his brother, Vernus, founded Loberg Brothers Realty, as brokers, near Northport in north Fargo. His brother, Leonard, and nephew, Gary, also joined them in the business. He loved working in real estate and in 1972 was named President of the Board of Realtors. He was a charter member of the ND Real Estate Education Foundation. In 2007, the National Assoc. of Realtors awarded him the Realtor Emeritus Award for over 40 years of valuable contributions to the profession and the community. Laurice is survived by his son, David, of Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and wife, Alice, in 2005. Memorials are preferred to American Kidney Fund - 6110 Executive Boulevard, Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852. Funeral Service: Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at 10:00 AM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Monday, March 21, 2011, from 5-7 PM, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M., at Hanson-Runsvold. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
