LaBelle Morris, 90, of Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Eventide on Eighth in Moorhead.
LaBelle Hatlie was born March 3, 1924 to Nelius and Lillian (Thompson) Hatlie in Wahpeton, ND. She grew up on the family farm near Colfax, ND, and was baptized and confirmed in Richland Lutheran Church in rural Walcott, ND. LaBelle attended school in Colfax, graduating as valedictorian in 1942. She received her teachers certificate from Moorhead Teachers College in 1944, where she was a member of Beta Chi Sorority. She taught school in Browns Valley and Barnesville, MN.
In 1947 LaBelle married Richard Morris. They made their home in Fargo and had four children, Charles, Lawrence “Larry”, Cheryl, and Leslie. She went back to school in 1965 and she received her Bachelors Degree from Moorhead State University. She taught school in Hope and Argusville, ND and retired in 1987 after teaching in Fargo Public Schools for 18 years.
LaBelle kept busy with volunteer work for various organizations. One of her favorites was the Sons of Norway where she was a member for 40 years. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and Bible School. She co-chaired the funeral group, worked at the Cass County Fair booth, worked in the library, and helped in the office. She was a member of Mary Martha Circle.
LaBelle was a fun and wonderful Mom and Grandma and will be dearly missed by her family.
LaBelle is survived by her children, Charles (Sue) Morris, Salinas, CA; Larry (Kathy) Morris, Fargo, ND; Cheryl (Ron) Hoeck, Sabin, MN; Leslie (Kirk) Arndt, Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren, Amy Morris, Alison (Rodney) Auser, Charles (Nicole) Morris, Joel (Jacque) Morris, Austin (Laura) Morris; Russell Hoeck; Erin Hoeck; eight great-grandchildren, Mia, Emma and Stella Auser; Kate and Grayson Morris; Reeve and Chael Morris; Mason Hoeck; one great-granddaughter on the way; brother, Graydon (Arlene) Hatlie, West Fargo, ND; niece, Tamara (Joseph) Krumm, and their children Lucas and Lexy.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley or First Lutheran Church of Fargo.
