Kirsten Marie Rommesmo, 80, of Fargo, ND died peacefully at her home Tuesday, January 19th, 2011 under the care of her family, Hospice of the Red River Valley, and the wonderful caregivers from The Doves. Kirsten was born on July 23, 1930 in Orkanger, Norway. At the end of World War II and the Nazi occupation of Norway, she moved to Gotenberg, Sweden where she worked as a nurse’s aide at a psychiatric hospital. In 1957, under the guarantee of her Uncle John, she immigrated to Minneapolis, MN and began work at Ebenezer Nursing Home. While in Minneapolis, Kirsten lived with her cousin, Janet Snyder, Janet’s husband Peter, and their five children. She always considered Janet like a second sister and was so grateful to her for inviting her to stay at their home. On December 19th, 1962, she married Ole Rommesmo, Sr. and moved to be with him in Fargo. Throughout her life, Kirsten traveled back to Norway several times to visit family and friends. While in Norway, she enjoyed having coffee and spending time with her beloved nieces and nephews. During the winter months, Kirsten would travel to her home in Sun Lakes, AZ. She would invite her cousin Janet to stay with her and loved when her grandsons would visit. Another love for Kirsten was her flowers and plants. Her home was always surrounded with many plants and she took great pride in tending to their care. Kirsten is survived by her son, Ole Jr., daughter-in-law, Shawn, and grandsons Erik and John of Fargo. She is also survived by her brother, Olav, of Verdal, Norway. Kirsten was preceded in death by her husband, Ole Sr., her parents, and her sister Anna and brother Ingvald. The family requests any memorials to be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley or the American Diabetes Association. Memorial Service: Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 2:00PM at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
