Kenneth Smallarz, 68, of Fargo, ND, lost his battle against ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fargo, with his family by his side. Kenneth George Smallarz was born at home in Hill Township in Cass County, North Dakota, on August 2, 1941, to Joe and Sadie (Janish) Smallarz. He attended school in Buffalo, after which he served in the United States Air Force. He was employed by the NDANG for 35 years retiring as Chief Master Sergeant in 1995. After retirement he enjoyed working for Odegaard Aviation restoring old airplanes. Kenny married Julie Brunton July 14, 1967, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo. Kenny’s love for his family and friends was immeasurable. His family was his life. He always put others first. He was an avid fan of the NDSU Bison, Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Dodgers. He and Julie enjoyed spending winters in Fort Myers, Florida. He never missed a school activity or sporting event which involved his daughters Jenny and Jessie, his nephew Michael, and special grand-nieces Reagan, Kayleigh, Marlee and Kara. Spending time with grandsons, Alex and Zach, was very special. Their time together was much too short. Kenny is survived by his wife Julie, Fargo, ND; daughter Jennifer (Kevin) Imig, West Des Moines, IA; daughter Jessica, Fargo: two grandsons; brother Ronald (Lucille), Fargo; several nieces and nephews; father and mother-in-law Barney and Ollie Brunton, Lisbon. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; brother Floyd; sister-in-law C. J. Nudell. He will be greatly missed. We love you.
