Kenneth W. Ruby, 88, of Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in his home. Ken was born January 30, 1924 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, son of Jinks and Charlotte (Rosenberger) Ruby. His home was Oskaloosa until he joined the Navy Air Force in 1943. After his discharge in 1946, he attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City and graduated in 1949. He married Doris J. Bass on June 19, 1949 in Oskaloosa. Ken was Asst. Superintendent of the Oskaloosa Water Department for 10 years. He accepted the position of Director of Utilities in Fargo, North Dakota in July 1959, where he worked until his retirement in 1987. He was an active member of the National and local American Water Works Associations, serving as President of the North Central section of AWWA and as a Director of the National organization. Ken was a member of Plymouth and sang in the choir for 28 years. He also served on the Board of Trustees. He liked to fish and golf and was a fan of all sports, especially football and the Bison. Ken is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters, Janis Pyle and Martha (Michael) Gaydos; grandchildren, Andrew (Jessica) Pyle, Kathryn and Kevin Gaydos; and brother-in-law, John (Debbie) Bass. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Harold (Allison), Donald (Bess), Glen and Helen (Charles) McClune. Memorials are preferred to Plymouth Congregational Church or Hospice of the Red River Valley. Memorial Service: Monday, April 23, 2012, at 10:30 AM, at Plymouth Congregational Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation: Sunday, April 22, 2012, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Burial: at a later date in Oskaloosa, Iowa
