Kenneth A. Baker (83) of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away on December 2, 2023.

Ken was born January 24, 1940, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Harry and Evelyn Baker.

He earned his degree in Horticulture at NDSU in the spring of 1963. Two weeks later, on June 22, 1963, Ken married Janice (Swenson) Baker at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN. As a Captain in the US Army, he was stationed in both Hanau and Gelnhausen, Germany for nearly four years, which initiated a lifetime of international travel for the couple.

Upon returning to Fargo, Ken went on to follow in his father Harry's footsteps and became the second generation owner of Baker Nursery, now Baker Garden and Gift. After retiring from Baker Nursery, he spent more time traveling while wintering in Reunion, FL.

Ken was known for his love of fishing, enduring support of NDSU Bison football, the strategy of poker, learning new magic tricks, and his lifelong pursuit of the game of golf. In retirement, he also embraced landscape painting and became a prolific stained glass artist.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Baker of Fargo, ND; three sons, Kevin (Cheryl) Baker of Montverde, FL, Eric (Anna Lee) Baker of Fargo, ND, Sean (Jennie) Baker of Mount Pleasant, MI; five grandchildren, Eloise, Hayley, Atticus, Aidan, and Ava; siblings, Janet (Dan) Jacobs of VA and Susan (David) Nagel of ND; and his feisty-but-loyal dog, Bart.

Ken's family will host a funeral service at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023 with a visitation one hour prior. The service will be at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home (215 7th St S, Fargo, ND).
