Keith W. Widmer, 57, Hawley, MN, passed away unexpectedly at home on December 20, 2022 following a brief respiratory illness.
Keith was born on May 22, 1965, in Fargo, ND, to Harris and Arlyce Widmer. He graduated from Fargo North High School in 1983. Keith furthered his education at the University of North Dakota (Go Sioux!) and graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting, he left UND with an amazing group of lifelong friends and Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity brothers. Sioux hockey and Bison football were his favorites; needless to say, there was a lot of green in his wardrobe!
Keith married Shelley Bacon in 1991. Together they had four children, Andrew, Alex, Allison, and Austin. In 2016, Keith married Lisa (Jacobs) Morgan and gained a step-son, Travis Job, and his wife and children.
He loved being a dad and grandpa and was so proud of his kids. He rarely missed a sporting event with his camera in hand if one of his kids was on the team. Hunting was a passion he shared with his father, kids, and his trusty bird dog, Jake.
Keith's last business venture was as co-owner and manager of the Country Inn and Suites in Detroit Lakes, MN. The hotel was sold in 2018, and Keith was able to enjoy a slower-paced life, which was welcome, as his CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) had become more complex, leading to daily home dialysis. He was on the kidney transplant recipient list at the time of his death.
In retirement, he stepped up his cooking game, always eager to try new recipes along with the tried and true that he knew his family enjoyed. He loved sharing extras with them whenever he could.
Keith was preceded in death by his stepson, Travis Job; grandparents, Emmanuel and Rose Gall, and Jacob and Bertha Widmer; aunt Shirley Campbell and cousin Mark Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa; sons Andrew (Catlyn), Dilworth, MN, Alex (Alexandra DeSmet), Adairsville, GA, Austin, and daughter Allison, both Fargo; parents, Harris and Arlyce Widmer, Fargo; uncle Larry (Barb) Widmer; cousins, Greg (Heidi) Campbell and Peggy Cichos; grandchildren, Gracelynn, Noah, Tyrson and Waylon.
Keith will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National Kidney Foundation or any charity that is meaningful to you.
A Memorial service is planned at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 1:30 PM, with visitation one hour prior and a gathering for family and friends immediately following the service.
