Kay Rognlie Kelly, 87, of Fargo, died on Monday, October 5, 2020, in her home.
Kay Diane Rognlie was born March 8, 1933, in Halstad, Minnesota to Lloyd and Edna Rognlie. Following her graduation from Climax High School, she enrolled at the University of North Dakota where she graduated with a B.S. in Nursing. During college, she met her future husband Robert Kelly. They married and moved to Fargo, North Dakota. They were blessed with five children. After their marriage ended, Kay returned to school and became a nurse practitioner in family planning. The majority of her career was spent working at Fargo Cass County Health until her retirement at age 66.
Kay spent her life serving others with her work for the community and raising her five children by herself. She led by example and was the embodiment of patience, kindness, intelligence, and love. We children were blessed with the best mother ever!
Kay is survived by her children, Patrick of Crookston, MN, Kimberly (Daniel Mickelson) of Tampa, FL and Fargo, ND, Michelle of Hopkins, MN, Lisa and Michael of Fargo. Surviving grandchildren are Sean Kelly of Hopkins, MN, Nicholas (Maisa) Mickelson and Alexander Mickelson of Tampa, FL, and great-grandchildren Antonio and Mila Mickelson of Tampa, FL. Also surviving Kay is her sister Lola (David) Monson of Chicago, IL, and their children Rebecca and Deb (Jim) Flight.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Edna Rognlie, both of Crookston, MN, and her brother David of Bernardsville, NJ.
A private family service will take place during the summer of 2021.
