Kay Hegland, 81, of Fargo, ND passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 in her home.
Kay Ellyn Strahm was born on November 2, 1932 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of four children born to Allen and Katherine Strahm. She grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Central High School there.
Kay married William Cunningham in 1950. Their marriage was blessed with a son, David Lewis Cunningham.
In 1968, Kay married Deward (DJ) Hegland. After his retirement from the US Air Force, they settled in Fargo in the early 1970's. They enjoyed many years of travel, both domestic and abroad. Their travels took them to many exotic locations, including China.
Kay was a long time member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was also very active in P.E.O., Chapter V, and enjoyed her involvement in Questers.
Besides travel, Kay loved to cook and entertain. She enjoyed great music and wine with her many friends.
Kay will be greatly missed by life-long friends Jerry Ann Shriver and Suzanne Corbin, as well as many wonderful and dear friends in Florida, Arizona, and Fargo. Her "condo family" at Park Place will miss their beloved "Okie".
Kay is survived by her son, David Cunningham, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Other survivors include her step-sons, Jim, Scott, and Chuck Hegland; a sister, Judy Norcross of PA; brothers David & Frederic Strahm of OK; as well as nephews and nieces.
Kay was preceded in death by DJ, passing away on their 25th wedding anniversary. She was also preceded in death by both parents, Allen and Katherine Strahm.
