Katsuko Kanai Jamison was born March 21, 1928 in Kanagawa-ken, Japan. She passed peacefully in sleep at her daughter’s home in Fargo, ND on January 27, 2014. She was the daughter of Shigezo and Shimako Kanai; one of 6 children born and raised in Japan.
Later, in the U.S., Katsuko called many places home; from the Hawaiian Islands and Idaho mountains, to Arizona deserts and lakes of Minnesota.
Katsuko was everyone’s mother. She was fond of preparing food for family, friends, or anyone who came through her kitchen. Her Japanese cooking was especially savored. She cheerfully engaged in cooking, household chores, crocheting, reading, gardening and caring for the families puppies.
Katsuko is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Tadao and Hajime, her sister, Fumiko, and her daughter Tokiyo.
Katsuko is survived by her sisters, Teiko and Eiko (and Eddie) Barrs, her brother Kazume, her daughters Kumiko (and Yoshio) Tsubaki, Sharon (and Fred) Wieck, and Betty (and Greg) Peterson. Her grandchildren include Yoshi, Minako, Andy, Kenji, Koji, Philip, and Amber. She has 11 great grandchildren.
This quiet, kind woman will be remembered and honored by many who are grateful to have known her wise and gentle way. Katsuko’s mortal remains will be returned to Japan to rejoin her ancestors.
