Kathryn Doyle

Kathryn L. Doyle, 56, of Fargo ND died peacefully in her home surrounded by her husband, Mark, and her daughter, Erin, December 28th, 2010. Katie was born 4/17/1954 in Minneapolis, MN. The daughter of Orin and Betty Paulson, she grew up in Red Wing, MN and graduated from Red Wing High School. After high school, she moved to Moorhead, MN and attended and graduated from Concordia College, majoring in elementary education. Her first teaching job was in Sisseton, SD and later taught for 30 years in the Northern Cass School District until retiring in 2009. On August 1st, 1981, she married Mark Doyle and together they had one daughter, Erin Doyle, born on December 1st, 1982. Katie loved teaching and loved Northern Cass. Not only because of her co-workers, but the smaller class size allowed more interaction between teacher and student. Like all good teachers, she really enjoyed June, July, and August. These months allowed her to spend her summers at the family lake home on Ottertail Lake, truly the best days of her life. After retirement, Katie and Mark’s dream of living at the lake in the summer and spending winters in the south was cut short by her illness. Still her fight and determination never affected her outlook on life. She fought the battle always thinking she would win. Katie’s daughter, Erin, was the pride of her life, and Katie spent countless hours following Erin in her academic and athletic endeavors. Before her death, she was able to witness Erin graduate from physician assistant school and land her first job at Sanford. “Proud Mom” would be an understatement. Mark and Erin would like to thank all the doctors and nurses of the Roger Maris Cancer Center and the nurses on the 7th floor of Sanford Hospital. With special note to Dr. Shelby Terstriep and chemo nurse Paula. Your care and compassion is inspiring. Katie is survived by husband Mark; daughter Erin; brother, Bob (Ally) Paulson; sister, Mary Paulson; father in-law, Bill Doyle; and sister in-law, Jan Ramstad; nephews, Jason (Nicole) Ramstad, Brett (Ronda) Ramstad, Kip Paulson, and Jake Paulson; nieces Amy (Jim) Murphy, Meghan Pearson, and Michelle Paulson; great-nephews Logan and Cade Murphy and great-niece Avery Ramstad. Katie is preceded in death by her parents Orin and Betty Paulson; mother in-law, Doris Doyle; brother- in-law, Duane Ramstad; and nephew Keith Pearson. Visitation: Monday January 3rd, 2011 from 5-7pm at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home with Prayer Service at 7:00pm. Funeral: Tuesday January 4th, 2011 at 2:00pm at First Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a consideration to the Roger Maris Embrace Program, Hospice of the Red River Valley, or Caringbridge.
