Karen passed away peacefully on November 29, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
Karen Marie Opgrand was born June 17, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA. Karen moved back to Fargo, ND with her parents Gilmore (Gim) and Hilda (Sid) Evje, as an infant. Karen was a cherished only child raised in the Catholic faith, graduating from Shanley High School.
Karen married the love of her life Jim Opgrand on August 17, 1960. Jim and Karen were married for 53 years rarely spending even a few nights apart. It was evident to everyone who knew them the great love they had for each other.
Together they created four devoted children whom they raised in Moorhead, MN. She is survived by her husband, Jim; son, Jeffrey Opgrand; daughter, Dawn (Eric Lorenz) Meyers; daughter, Susan (Jason) Opgrand-Cromwell, and son, Bill (Rebecca) Opgrand.
One of her greatest joys was taking care of her grandchildren giving them endless love and attention. They include; Sarah (Shane) Underdahl, Jamie Bengtson, Shaun Meyers, Thomas (fiancé Heather) Opgrand, Robert Opgrand, Jeffrey (special friend, Katie) Cameron Cromwell, Morgan Cromwell and Logan Opgrand; great-grandchildren include, Maddix Morlas, Brodie Underdahl, and Emily Underdahl.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Jordan Lorenz.
Karen worked for over 30 years for the Moorhead School system. She worked in the nurses office taking care of many generations of children. She often talked of retiring but could not leave her “children” and extended school family.
Karen was actively involved in St. Joseph’s Church and sang for many years with Joyful Noise Choir, as well as teaching religious education.
Karen will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her infectious smile and boundless energy will leave a large void. She never hesitated to help anyone and would drop everything to take care of her grandchildren. They will forever miss her endless kisses and hugs.
