Karen Ackerman, 75, of West Fargo, ND, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Karen Elaine Fleischer was born August 24, 1944 at Union Hospital in Mayville, ND to Edward and Bernice (Hagen) Fleischer. She was baptized on October 8, 1944 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, ND and confirmed on May 17, 1959.
Karen grew up in Hillsboro, ND and attended school there through 11th grade. Then her family moved to California where she graduated from Los Altos High School in Hacienda Heights in 1962. She later moved back to Fargo, ND and worked as a secretary at Dakota Clinic, which is when she met Bernard Ackerman.
Karen married Bernie on December 30, 1963 in Hillsboro, ND at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. They made their home in Fargo where they raised two daughters. She always said her favorite job was being a stay-at-home mom.
Karen is survived by her husband, Bernard; daughters, Theresa (Steven) Ausk, Chaffee, ND; Debora Miller, Valley City, ND; grandchildren, Jacklyn Ausk, Chelsea Ausk, David Ausk, Hali Miller, Joselyn Miller; siblings, Marie (Stanley) Foss, Harry Fleischer, Brenda Burns, and Charlene Jablonski.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Michael Miller; siblings, JoAnn Williams and Barbara Kenson; brothers-in-law, George Williams, Ira Kenson, and Donald Burns.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of the Red River Valley for their care for Karen.
