Judith Streed

Judith Arlene Streed, 82, formerly of West Fargo, ND, passed away January 16, 2008, at Bethany Homes, Fargo, ND. Judith Arlene Tovaas was born to Julius Nilcolai and Clara Eleanor (Thorpe) Tovaas December 28, 1925, in Haley, South Dakota, in Harding County. She was the ninth of 12 children, being the last surviving. She attended Vessey School until the 8th grade when she left the farm and moved to Fargo in 1941. She worked retail sales for many years; first the Canteen at the Veterans Hospital. While working at the Canteen, she met Arthur Streed and they were united in marriage January 21, 1948, at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Fargo. Judith also worked for SS Kresge Co, Crescent, Royal and John Gould Jewelers, retiring in 1994. She started working for Crescent Jewelers in 1965, where she worked for 20 years, until it closed. While working for Crescent Jewelers, she took a correspondence course to become a certified gemologist in diamonds. A very proud and determined person, she obtained her GED in spring of 1987, at the age of 62. Her next goal was to learn to swim. She became a member of the YMCA where she loved to do water aerobics, continuing until 2006. She was a life member of VFW Post 762 Ladies Auxiliary, Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo and was active with circle. Judith was a great wife, mother, grandmother, sibling, friend and cook. Nobody in the family ever went hungry and her peach pie will be missed by many. She is survived by her three children, David Lynn (Cherryl) Streed, Moorhead, MN; Arthur Robert (Bonnie) Streed, Fargo, ND; Joy Arlene Streed, Fargo, ND; two grandchildren, Bryce Michael (Leslie) Streed, Bismarck, ND; Courtney Allen (Kristin) Streed, Fargo, ND; and two great-grandchildren, Annika, Bismarck, ND; and Rylee, Fargo, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; son, Jeffery; parents; four brothers and seven sisters. Funeral Service: Saturday, January 19, 2008, at 11:00 AM, at Faith Lutheran Church, West Fargo, ND. Visitation: Friday, January 18, 2008, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND. Prayer Service: Friday, January 18, 2008, at 7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
