Judith Helen Thompson Creech, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2023, at the age of 81. She was born on November 5, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio, to her parents, Helen Louis and Ralph Thompson. Judy was the epitome of warmth, kindness, and strength, leaving an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Judith was employed for the majority of her life as a telephone installation and maintenance person, which required her to climb telephone poles, a field not commonly pursued by women at that time. Her determination and dedication to her work were an inspiration to many. Following retirement, she continued to work a variety of jobs into her late 70's.
On April 11, 1959, she married the love of her life, Charles "Bud" Creech.
Judy's legacy lives on through their children: Teri (Reed) Huso, Charles J. Creech, Mark Creech, Barbara Creech, Patricia Creech, and Lisa (Don) Logan. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she was a proud grandmother to 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, with another great-great-grandchild due in November. She is also survived by sisters, Nancy Carroll and Nelly Jo McCart; and sister-in-law, Sandra Thompson; in addition to many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends whom she considered family.
A woman with a heart of gold, Judy was characterized by her ability to connect with anyone she met. She never met a stranger, always extending a warm smile and a listening ear. Her caring nature was evident in every aspect of her life. She had an innate sense of giving, often going above and beyond to help others. Judy was a strong advocate for justice and fairness, never hesitating to stand up for what she believed was right.
Among her passions was her love for plants and flowers, which she nurtured with a green thumb that seemed to bring life wherever they bloomed. In her leisure time, she found happiness in playing bingo and spending quality moments with her family. She loved to travel and go on road trips. Family was paramount to Judy, and she cherished every gathering, making sure each member felt valued and loved.
Judy is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Creech; twin brother, Jerrald Thompson; brother, Robert Thompson; sisters, Patricia Burgess and Betty Lou Ruckles; and great-grandson, Ethan Block. Their memories will forever be held close by her family.
As we say goodbye to Judy, we remember her as a beacon of love and compassion. Her legacy will continue to shine through the lives she touched and the values she instilled. In her passing, we celebrate a life well-lived and a heart that overflowed with love for everyone she encountered.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, 215 7th Street South, Fargo, ND 58103.
Friends and family are invited to come together to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Judith Helen Thompson Creech.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Cass County Special Olympics or Roger Maris Cancer Center, both causes that were dear to Judy's heart. Alternative suggestions are to save your money and play a game of bingo in her memory.
