Joyce Y. (Harstad) Schlenker, 75, of Fargo, died Friday, September 18, 2015, at Elim Care Center from her bout with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Joyce was born in December, 1939, in Jamestown, ND, to Arthur and Audrey (Sodawasser) Harstad. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1957 and married Leland (Pete) Schlenker the following year. After starting their family, Joyce and Pete moved to Fargo in 1968. Joyce was primarily a stay-at-home mom but did venture into the work world as a hostess at the 13th Avenue Fargo Hardee’s and as a “demo lady” for Buttrey Foods. Joyce tended home, bellies and hearts.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Pete; daughter, Laurie, Fargo; sons, Tim (Vicki), Fargo and David, Fargo; grandchildren, Scott (Ashley), Fargo, Sara (Anthony) Bachman, Moorhead, Samantha (Dallas) Brown, Surprise, AZ, and Wolfgang, Fargo; great grandchildren, Kaylee, Kennedy, Avery, Rylee, Dawson and Aubrey; many extended family members, neighbors and friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Janet Acre, and brothers, Bert and John.
Joyce was best known for gardening, sewing , quilt-making, orderliness, time management, family dinners, cooking, baking, buns, caramel rolls, pumpkin bars, mashed potatoes and gravy, pickles….did we mention food?! Joyce could make anything and fill you up! Joyce was also known for her work ethic, her generosity and her smile.
