Joyce Gunderson

Joyce Arlene Gunderson, age 89, of Fargo, ND passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Elim Nursing Home, surrounded by her family.

Joyce Krumpelmann was born July 15, 1929 in Fargo, ND to Albert and Hilma (Peterson) Krumpelmann. Joyce attended Fargo Central High, graduating in 1947. Joyce then attended Dakotah Business College obtaining a degree in business.

On May 1, 1954, Joyce married Lloyd B. Gunderson at First Baptist Church in Fargo. Joyce had met Lloyd while they were both employed at Noble Adjustment Company in Fargo, ND.

Lloyd and Joyce had two children, Elisabeth and Richard and primarily resided in Fargo. Joyce was a very active member of First Baptist Church in Fargo. She participated in the Lord's work through her volunteer activities, church circle, and was an accomplished organist. In 1975, Joyce went to work at the new Dayton's located at West Acres Mall, eventually holding the position of Petite Specialist. Joyce loved working with all her clients and made many lifelong work friends. Joyce retired from Macy's (formerly Dayton's and Marshall Fields) in 2000.

Joyce grew up spending summers at the McKenzie cottage on Lake Melissa with her parents. In 1961, Lloyd and Joyce purchased the Seifert cottage, located next door to the McKenzie's. Joyce and the kids had many great summers being right next door to her childhood friends. Joyce had a zest for life and loved her time at the lake. Her children and grandchildren fondly remember many fun-filled lake activities, and playing board games with her at the cottage. Joyce's best friend growing up, Barbara Doerr "Auntie Barb", would always come visit Joyce and kids at the cottage in the summer. They would take the kids and go on scavenging adventures across lake country for insulators and antiques.

Joyce loved dogs and could often be seen walking in her 8th Street neighborhood with her current dog be it Sparky, Caeser, Pepper and lastly Paris.

Joyce is survived by her children, Elisabeth (John) Goff, Richard (Anna) Gunderson; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lloyd; Auntie Barb; and her grandson, Jacob Travis Gunderson.

There will be a private family service later this fall, with interment at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with her husband, Lloyd.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley as well as the excellent and caring staff at Elim Nursing Home where she had been a resident for several years.

Memorials are preferred to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery or a pet shelter of your choice.
