Joyce B. Cole, 94, of Fargo, ND died Friday, July 1, 2022, peacefully in her home.
Joyce was born on May 15, 1928 to Fred and Viola Bolmeier in Fargo. She graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1945 and from North Dakota State University in 1949 with a degree in Applied Arts and Sciences. While at NDSU, she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
On June 25, 1949, Joyce married the love of her life, Prentiss H. Cole, of Fargo. They were married 49 years until his passing on August 17, 1998. Joyce and Prentiss were blessed with two beautiful daughters. They spent their summers at Lake Melissa, Detroit Lakes, MN, and their winters at The Landings, Fort Myers, FL. She served on the Board of Directors for Cole Papers and as a sounding board for Prentiss day in and day out. She was active in churches, Olivet Lutheran and later First Presbyterian. Joyce cared deeply for others and for her community. Throughout her life she participated in various volunteer organizations such as Meals on Wheels, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and was a founding member of the Fargo chapter of Junior League. Joyce and Prentiss enjoyed traveling, sailing, and many ski trips. Joyce also holds the family record for enjoying the latest and longest dinners!
Joyce was a fun-loving, generous, elegant and compassionate woman. She loved her family more than anything and always enjoyed hosting memorable holiday celebrations. She was known to dust off her tap dancing shoes to Frank Sinatra, sing "A You're Adorable," and to always have a box of chocolates nearby. She loved Fargo and her friends dearly, living much of her life within a five block radius, and often played bridge with friends. She had an amusing sense of humor and sharp wit that would light up a room and brighten every heart. She will be remembered as the family matriarch and was adored by all who knew her. To know Joyce was to love her.
Joyce leaves behind daughters, Nancy Cole (Chuck) Perkins, Fargo; and Marjorie Cole (Rusty) Collins, Moorhead, MN; grand-children, Alyssa (Justin) Tennison, Cole (Annika) Perkins, Courtney (Mark) Buchholz, Connor Perkins, John (Megan) Collins, Kristin (Justin) Poseley; 11 great-grandchildren; and Godson, Scott (Dawn) Schnell. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jeannie, and brother Fred. The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to her loving team of caregivers.
Memorials can be made to First Presbyterian Church, Fargo, New Life Center, and Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Friday, July 8, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church in Fargo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
