Joseph Drummond, 82, of Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the VA Hospital in Fargo. Joseph Aloysius Drummond was born December 29, 1927, to William and Anna (Flavin) Drummond in Dorchester, MA. He attended elementary and junior high schools in Boston. He joined the US Army at 17 by forging his parent’s signature, and served in Camp Wheeler, Georgia for training, as well as drove trucks in New Jersey hauling German prisoners. After the military, Joe left Boston and travelled west with Fred Allen to work on a cattle ranch in Nevada. After working the ranch, Joe moved to Fargo and earned his GED and was admitted to Moorhead State Teachers College. Joe met Carol Tollefson at Moorhead State in 1949 and they were married on July 11, 1951 at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo. They have been members of Peace Lutheran Church since 1962. Joe joined the Minnesota National Guard and was called back to active duty during the Korean War in 1950. Joe moved back to Fargo and finished college in 1953. He played football and started a boxing club. He started a career at American Hardware Mutual and worked there for 36 years before retiring. Joe loved aviation and skydiving. He first soloed in a Cessna 150 at the age of 68 and logged 249 jumps as a sport skydiver. He enjoyed spending time in the summers on Big Cormorant Lake. Joe is survived by his wife, Carol, children, Steven (Sue) Drummond, Alexandria, MN; James (Cathy) Drummond, Oshkosh, WI; and Susan (Steve) Carman, Dunsmuir, CA; grandchildren, Morgan, Joseph, Samuel, Michael, and Jacob; and great-granddaughter, Finnley. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Frank, Judy, Bill, and Virginia. Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, November 1, 2010, at Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
