John G. Hinman (Jack), age 90, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2024, in Sanford Hospice House. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 10 AM to 11 AM followed by his 11 AM memorial service at First Lutheran Church, Fargo. Interment will be held in First Lutheran Church Memorial Chapel’s Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to a charity of your choice in honor of John. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo.
John G. Hinman was born on December 28, 1933, in Minneapolis, MN. He was raised in Alexander, ND. John was active in all sports and was on the Championship Class C basketball team in 1949. He excelled at track and field and football. Concordia College recruited him for football where he was their star running back for four years and Captain of their track and field team.
He met the love of his life, Muriel Johnson, at Concordia. They were united in marriage on August 31, 1956, in Havre, MT. John and Muriel were active in the community and lifelong C-400 members. Upon his college graduation, John joined the US Army. He was honorably discharged in 1958. After his service, he taught school in Springfield, OR for several years.
John and Muriel moved to Williston, ND, in 1962, where he entered banking with Northwest Federal Savings & Loan. In 1982, they moved to Fargo, where he worked for Metropolitan Financial. Upon his retirement, he stayed active with C-400 events, Concordia College, and his church, First Lutheran. He was very involved in his grandchildren’s school events all the way through to their college graduations.
John is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Muriel Hinman; daughter, Lisa (Roy) Sander; son, Robert (Ann) Hinman; four grandchildren, John (Lindsay) Sander, Jared (Thomas) Sander, Hayley (Taylor) Hinman and Hannah (Alan) Glass; five great-grandchildren, Linus, Theodore, Ophelia, Clyde, and Lilah; and several loving family members and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Sanford Hospital and Sanford Hospice House.
