John E. Haggart of Fargo passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
John was born in Fargo, June 6, 1931 to George E. and Elizabeth (Bess) Haggart. He graduated high school from Shattuck Military Academy. He attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and graduated from NDSU. John proudly served in the United States Air Force achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
He married the love of his life, Sharon Cooke Palon in 1960. They made their home in Fargo where they raised their five children. Sharon passed away in 1993.
John owned and operated Geo. E. Haggart Inc. until his retirement. In 1975, he was elected president of the Associated General Contractors of North Dakota.
He married Shirley Anderson in 2000. She passed away in 2002.
John had a tremendous love of the outdoors and was happy whether he was fishing the Florida flats for bonefish or the lakes of Minnesota for walleye or bass. He loved spending time with his family at his home on Pelican Lake. His other passions in life included hunting, trains, and American business. He was a man of great faith.
Survivors include his children: Rick Haggart, Fargo; Paula (Dwayne) Koone, Montana; Penny (Rex) Kemmer, Fargo; Bill Haggart, Detroit Lakes, MN; Nancy (John) Sarafolean, Fargo; seven grandchildren, Tom Kemmer, Kelly Kemmer, Casey Koone, Kristina, Andie and Molly Sarafolean, Hunter Haggart; 1 great grandchild, Cruz Smith; a sister, Elizabeth Larson; niece, Ann Watson and nephew, John Kissling.
The family would like to thank Dr. Denise Snow, the Roger Maris Cancer Center, and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
