John D. Dunnicliff, 90, of Fargo, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016 in Elim Care Center.
John was born on Sept. 22, 1926 in St. James, MN to parents John and Marjorie. He attended school through the ninth grade in St. James and graduated from South West High in Minneapolis, MN. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre and Japan during WWII. After his discharge, he attended broadcasting school. He began his radio and television career at KTRF in Thief River Falls, MN, and later worked at KOJM in Havre MT, WDAY in Fargo, ND, and KSFY in Sioux Falls, SD. Following his retirement from broadcasting, John served as director of recruitment for Sioux Falls Community Blood Bank until 1992. He returned to Fargo in 1993 to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ruth, of Fargo; children, Darrell (Marilyn) Dunnicliff, Cleveland, OH; Charles Dunnicliff and Lori (Bob) Seigel, both of Moorhead, MN; Mary Carlson, Fargo; John (Kathy) Brandvold, Dutton, MT; Cathy Brandvold, Valier, MT; James (Adria) Brandvold, Belgrade, MT; Laurie (David) Trexler, Bynum, MT; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William; a daughter, Mary Jo Brandvold; a grandson, Cody Marthaller; and great-granddaughter, Serena Carlson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church Foundation, Fargo.
