John Herbert Dreiling, 72, of Moorhead, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, February 18, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Fargo, ND.
John was born April 10, 1944 in Hays, Kansas. Upon graduating from high school in 1962 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In Vietnam he fought with “B” Company of the 7th Marine Battalion, 1st Marine Division, serving a tour of duty from 1965 to 1966.
On August 30, 1969 John married Florence Haffner of Quinter, Kansas. Over the next several years while starting a family, they moved around the midwest, living in Kansas, Nebraska, and Colorado. In 1981 the family set down permanent roots in Moorhead, Minnesota where he started and ran his business, Maak’s Vacuum, for over 30 years.
John was very artistic and we are blessed to have his paintings hanging on our walls. His greatest pride was his four children, Matt, Anjie, Andy and Katie and his greatest joy was being with his grandchildren, Ella, Noah, Isabel and Christian.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Severina and sisters, Shirley, Betty, Carole and Mary. He is survived by his wife, Florence; children, Matt (Jennifer Reifsneider), Anjie, Andy (Nicole) and Katie (Adam Grotjohn); and his grandkids, Ella, Noah, Isabel and Christian.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Veteran’s Administration for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Palliative Care at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fargo.
