Joanne L. Pilger, 92, of Altamonte Springs, Florida peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in AdventHealth Hospice Orlando after a short illness.
Joanne Stenberg was born on December 27, 1931, to Melvin and Alma (Fjelstad) Stenberg on the family farm near Horace, North Dakota, the youngest of six siblings. She graduated as class valedictorian from Oak Grove High School in 1950.
In November 1954 she met the love of her life, Lloyd Pilger, while roller skating at the Fargo Arena. They married on October 22, 1955, in Horace and made their home in the Fargo-Moorhead area. In August 1979 they relocated to Altamonte Springs, Florida for health reasons. For the majority of their forty-six years of married life they enjoyed weekly square dancing in the Fargo-Moorhead area as well as in the Orlando area. After Lloyd's retirement they also enjoyed many trips to various locations in the Southeast during their last years together. In May 2001 Lloyd unexpectedly passed away. Joanne remained in Altamonte Springs in their home until shortly before her death.
Joanne is survived by her daughter Lori (Tim Bergin), Moorhead and son Gregg Pilger, Altamonte Springs, along with brother-in-law Richard Peterson, Fargo and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd and siblings Lucylle Peterson, Joyce Chaney, Margie Jasch, Martell Stenberg, and Floyd Stenberg.
Joanne's final resting place will be next to her beloved Lloyd in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
