Joann Meisner

JoAnn Meisner, RN, BSN, 55, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at her home after a nine month courageous battle with cancer. JoAnn L. Mork was born on April 18, 1954, in Michigan, ND, to Sam and Ella Mork. She graduated from Petersburg High School. She attended UND Nursing School graduating in 1976. She married Allan Meisner on August 16, 1976, in Petersburg, ND. JoAnn was a leader in many roles at MeritCare, starting out as an RN in the Neuro ICU and MS/CVICU from 1980 to 1986. After working in Bismarck and Minneapolis, she returned to MeritCare in 1990 to be responsible for the Excel program, the first clinical ladder for nurses. She continued to work in human resources as an employee relations and return to work specialist. She moved to the Day Unit as a lead when they opened in 2005 and for the last two years, served as manager of Occupational Health. JoAnn loved to cook, spend time with friends, sew, quilt, knit and entertain. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school at one time. She was a volunteer at Dorothy Day House and also was a member of Sigma Theta Tau. JoAnn is especially proud of her children, all of their accomplishments and what fine adults they have become. The family is grateful that they had the opportunity to make JoAnn’s wish of a family trip to New York City come true as well as spend quiet time with JoAnn at the lake. JoAnn is survived by her husband, Allan; mother, Ella Mork, Petersburg, ND; children, Kristin Meisner (fiancée Nathanael Lilly), St. Paul, MN; Kyle Meisner (Becky Olson), Rochester, MN; brother, Gary (Maureen) Mork, Petersburg, ND; sister, Sharon (Craig) Lindemann, Enderlin, ND; two nephews and four nieces. She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Mork. Funeral Service: Saturday, February 13, 2010, at 11:00 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. Visitation: Friday, February 12, 2010, from 5-7 PM, at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Petersburg Lutheran Cemetery, Petersburg, ND, at a later date.
