Joan Harriet Saul, 81, Fargo, ND, passed away Monday, December 9, 2008, at Golden Living Center, Moorhead, MN. Joan Harriet (Anderson) Saul was born on March 15, 1927, the daughter of Neva E. Hayden and Harry J. Anderson in Fargo, ND. She was raised and educated in Fargo. Joan married Donald Smith on August 22, 1943 in Fargo, ND. They had two children, Lynn and Virginia (Gini). On November 17, 1951, Joan married John H. Saul in Fargo, ND. They had three children, Greg, Tracey and Doug. They made their home in Moorhead, MN and later in Fargo. Joan worked for Fargo Laundry, in the office of the Fargo Elks Club and in her later years at Sunset Bowling Lanes in Moorhead with Glen, Lonnie and the gang. These were some of the happiest years of her life. She enjoyed her family and loved her children unconditionally. She loved the many summers watching John play baseball and softball, and later her son Greg. She lived to golf and spent many years on the links of Edgewood Golf Course. In fact she golfed the same week her youngest son, Doug, was born! She made many fast friends through golf and especially enjoyed their coffee time together after a good round of golf! Bowling was another passion of hers. She was blessed to meet so many wonderful people while serving as League Secretary and President and while on the Fargo-Moorhead Women’s Bowling Association Board. She managed the Women’s Red River Bowling Tournament at Sunset Lanes for numerous years and had a special bond with Anne Scott and the Canadian bowlers that came year after year to bowl. In 1983 she was awarded the Distinguished Service Award and in 1989 was inducted into the FMWBA’s Hall of Fame, two things she was very proud of. She loved bowling with, and against, her daughters over the years! Joan also enjoyed a good game of cards, and winning of course! In 2002, due to health problems, she moved into Park View Terrace Apartments in Moorhead and in March of this year into the Golden Living Center. She felt the staff there was part of her family and we are grateful for the wonderful care they gave to her at the end of her life. Survivors include sons, Greg, Beeville, TX and Doug, Fargo, ND; daughters, Lynn (John) Blokzyl, Corona, CA, Gini (Hank) Corneliussen, Moorhead, MN and Tracey (Mark) Braeger, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Teri, Brad, John, Jeff, Dan, Sara, Chris, Andrew and Trevor; great-grandchildren, Jake, Ryan, Nikki, Gabby, Jackie, Javy, Cody, Garett, Caden, Briaunna, Jordan, Josie, Grace and Edie; and brother, James McHose, Carbondale, IL.
