Joan P. Mogck

August 11, 1932 — August 25, 2018

A woman known for her devotion to her family and faith, heartbreakingly left us for heaven.

Joan P. Mogck more than likely arrived in heaven with her signature greetings of "You Who!" or "Found You!"

Joan was barely into her 86th year, when she passed away at Villa Maria Nursing Home Saturday, wrapped in the arms of her loving family.

Joan was born in Selfridge, ND, August 11, 1932 to Clarence and Minnie (Ogren) Kinslow. She was one of 6 children. She would proudly call Swede Township home. She was raised on a farm north of Kulm, N.D. She graduated from Kulm High School, and married her high school sweetheart, Arlyn Mogck, in 1951. They raised 4 children together and Joan wore the title of "homemaker" with honor and pride. Home-cooked meals were always followed by desserts and bedtime was always preceded by “bed lunch”.

As children grew, Joan put her sewing talents to use. She worked at Sgutt's in Downtown Fargo as a seamstress, and later at the Village Family Service Center in the Big Brother, Big Sister program.

But when grandchildren arrived, Joan had a new mission. She was "hands-on," and rarely missed a grandchild's event. Her calendar of games, concerts and other events became her bible. Grandma Joanie's smile and support never wavered, win or lose.

Wednesdays were holidays. Joan was a founding member of “The Wednesday Lunch Bunch”. A group of ladies that met for lunch for more than 50 years, every Wednesday, to brag about family, question officials calls against grandchildren or to solve the world's problems.

Gooey caramel rolls were Joan's calling card. Every week, she would bake several batches, and deliver them to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

2 months after her beloved Arlyn died, Joan was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Her 3rd diagnosis of cancer in her life. As always, Joan never lost her optimistic attitude, her smile, and her grace in dealing with life's challenges. "Someone always has it worse," she would say.

Celebrating a great life are daughter, Denise Miller (Ralph); sons, Devin (Dawne), Dana (Krisanne), Darin (Dawn); and grandchildren, Joe, Jeramie, Anne, Lynsey, Gunnar, Annika, Bergen, and Jacob. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren. Joan also leaves behind two sisters, Yvonne and Charlotte; and two brothers, Skip (Bea) and Dennis (Maxine).

Memorials are preferred to the New Life Center, Gods Child Project, and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Joan is donating her body to the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences, in hopes of helping others.
