Joan Anderson, 94, of Fargo, ND, died on July 15, 2023, at the Meadows on University in Fargo, ND.

Joan Gloria Olson was born on March 3, 1929, in Erdahl, MN, to Oscar and Nancy (Peterson) Olson. She grew up on the family farm near Erdahl and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1947. Went to Minneapolis and where she worked for General Mills. She married Ronald Fox and to this union, they had Rhonda.

Joan married Bob Anderson on October 22, 1955, in Sisseton, SD.
After being a homemaker for many years, Joan opened the store “Children’s Castle” in 1972 in the Valley North Mall, later moving the store to West Acres Mall. She opened a second store in the Moorhead Center Mall. She opened and ran “Bundle of Joy” in Elm Tree Square for a brief time.

After 15 years, she retired and sold the business in 1987. During retirement, Joan enjoyed her pleasant and quiet time. Her husband, Bob, died on January 21, 2009.

Joan is survived by her son Steve Robert (Michael Gitt) Anderson, San Fransisco, CA; one sister, Val Jean Michalewicz, Plano, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Rhonda Joan Anderson Vergona; siblings, Kathleen Weossner, Bert Olson, Dorothy Johnson, Rolland Olson, Corrin Olson, Robert Olson, and Betty Brekke.

The family wishes to thank all the dedicated caregivers from the Meadows on University. Special thanks to Jayme, Marian, and Sarah for help with both my father and mother. Also wish to thank everyone from Hospice of the Red River Valley for their care during her final days.

A very special thank you to Alicia, Camille, and Pam for all the extra attention they provided when we could not be there.
