Jennette Yvonne Dittman, 96, of Fargo, ND, passed away on March 19, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center. She was born on January 9, 1929, in Enderlin, ND. Her parents were Jennie Etta (Patterson) King and Charles Eugene King. Jennette grew up in Mankato, MN, where she met her husband, Richard Dittman, at Mankato State Teachers College. They married in 1948 and lived in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and North Dakota.
After earning a PhD. at Penn State University, Jennette taught at NDSU from 1975-1992, attaining the rank of full professor in the College of Home Economics. She was an outstanding educator and academic advisor, earning awards for both. Her students often viewed her as an exemplary role model, keeping in touch with her after they graduated.
In addition to her academic career, Jennette was a member of numerous organizations such as Fargo Round Table, Silver Follies, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church where she taught adult Sunday school for many years. In addition, she volunteered at the Hjemkomst Center and Sanford Hospital. For five summers she was a volunteer in Medora, ND.
Even though she had a full schedule, Jennette found time for reading, gardening, cooking, and sewing. Walking her beloved dog, Mollie, was a favorite activity. Jennette also enjoyed travel to Europe, China, and various parts of the United States. Her favorite travel, though, was visiting her family and friends.
Jennette is survived by her three children, Jennifer Kaye Madej (Kazimierz), Charles Richard Dittman, and Peter King Dittman (Wendy); as well as six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, Jeanne Carter and Annette Toews; and dear friend, Carol Andreini. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; sisters, Kay Lee and Marie Toews; brother-in-law, Alquinn Toews; grandson, Jarod Dittman; and nephew, Richard Toews.
Jennette lived a full, active and meaningful life. She touched so many and will be remembered for her warmth, caring and support.
The Dittman family thanks the staff at Touchmark for their care of Jennette this past year and a half. A special thanks to Brittny Bruns for her ongoing care and support.
