Jeffrey Lynn Groothuis, beloved son, brother, uncle, and esteemed member of our family, peacefully passed away on June 28th at the age of 72.

Jeff was born on February 20th, 1952, in St. Cloud, MN, the son of Leo and Gladys Groothuis. The family moved to Fargo, ND, in 1957. After graduating from Fargo South High School, Jeff enlisted in the United States Marines, where he proudly served his country with honor and distinction. His time in the Marines instilled in him values of courage, discipline, and service that he carried with him throughout his life.

Following his military service, Jeff pursued a career in carpentry with the railroad, where his skilled craftsmanship and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. He approached his work with precision and meticulous attention to detail, leaving behind a legacy of excellence. Jeff retired from the railroad after 30 years.

Outside of his professional life, Jeff was a devoted uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He took great joy in spending time with family, sharing stories, and imparting wisdom gleaned from his rich life experiences. Jeff particularly loved Trivial Pursuit and card games around the kitchen table, where things would sometimes get heated but always ended in belly laughs. His presence will be deeply missed at family gatherings and celebrations.

In his leisure time, Jeff enjoyed traveling and spending time outdoors—especially by the lakes, fishing, and visiting old friends in mountain areas across different states. He found solace in life's simple pleasures. Jeff could often be seen around town in his little convertible, listening to classic oldies music, usually at high volume, with his beloved dog, Sasha, in the passenger seat.

"Uncle Jeff" leaves behind many old friends, affectionately referred to as "JG," a large and loving family, including his siblings Karen (Martin) Sande, William (Sheila) Groothuis, Pamela (Dan) Aune, Susan (Barry) Hendrickson, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo & Gladys Groothuis (Ranger) and siblings Gary Groothuis, Ronald (Darlene) Groothuis, and Jerry (Gail) Groothuis.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Jeff's life will be held at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, 215 7th Street South, Fargo, ND 58103, on July 12th at 2:00 pm, with visitation beforehand at 1:00 pm. Jeff's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their condolences and support during this difficult time. Your kindness and presence have provided great comfort as we remember and celebrate the life of "Uncle Jeff."

Rest in peace, Jeff. Your legacy of love, laughter, and service will forever be cherished in our hearts.
