Jeanne Heidi Roman

September 18, 1962 — December 16, 2013

Jeanne Heidi Roman was called to her eternal home on December 16th, 2013 after a 15 month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jeanne was born September 18th 1962 to Marlyn and Joanne Avenson in Park Rapids, MN. September 18th was also her father’s birthday. She grew up there and graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1981. Jeanne was very involved in sports as a Diver and Golfer. She was also involved in her church home at that time, St. John’s Lutheran. She attended Moorhead State University for two years, where she met her husband Marcus. They moved down to the twin cities where Marcus was employed, and Jeanne finished her college education at Concordia St. Paul. Jeanne received a Bachelor’s degree in History. While her degree was in History, Jeanne always was good with numbers. For most of her employment she was in accounting and finance. She was a true “chip off the old block”, as her father Marlyn spent his career in Insurance and Banking.
Jeanne and Marcus spent various years living in the twin cities and back here in the Fargo/Moorhead area. They have been living at their current location in North Moorhead since 2001. Jeanne has had two main jobs, working first at Lee Bean and Seed Company. While at Lee Bean and Seed, she assisted in many areas of their operation with an emphasis on accounting. She then worked at Connections of Moorhead as their fiscal administrator. She loved working for Connections and built relationships there with many co-workers.

Raising her children was one of the joys of her life. She also loved spending time with her extended family and being involved with the members at their church home at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Fargo. Jeanne loved the Christmas season and she had many Christian sayings that were favorites. One was “Jesus is the reason for the season”. She lived by this and taught her children to live by it as well.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband to many different destinations including: Cancun, Ixtapa, Russia, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Hawaii, Morocco, Canada, Tahiti, Aruba, Jamaica, and more, plus many wonderful places in the US. Jeanne spent most of her younger years living at their lake home on Fish Hook Lake north of Park Rapids.

She, her husband and family loved the lake and spent as much time there as they could on weekends. Jeanne also loved to read, golf, and was a big sports fan.

Jeanne is survived by her husband, Marcus Roman; mother, Joanne Avenson; children, Johanna, Alexander, and Tabatha; brother, Bruce (Gail) Avenson; and sisters, Carol (Mike) Kephart, Diane (John) Christiansen, and Melissa (Jason) Sieving.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her father, Marlyn Avenson; aunt, Arlyce Becker; uncle, Vern Avenson; and sister, Mary Kathryn.

There are two other Christian sayings that Jeanne always liked. One was, “What would Jesus do?” She lived her life teaching this to her children and trying to practice it in her own daily life as well. The other was, “God is good”. Believe it or not, even through all of the treatments, all the sickness and pain that come with this brutal disease, she still lived with this in mind. She did this because at the end, she knew that her place would be in Heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
