Jean Audrey Prentice

Jean A. (Monson) Prentice, 95, passed on November 14, 2019 at Eventide in Moorhead, MN.

Jean Audrey Monson was born to J. Lloyd and Ruth Oxton Monson on November 11, 1924, in Fargo. She grew up in Fargo as a third generation Fargoan. She attended Fargo Public Schools where she was a National Honor Roll student. While attending NDSU, she was active in the Kappa Delta Sorority, holding many offices. Her activity with the KD’s kept going as an Alum, for several decades. Upon graduation she moved to Monte Vista, Colorado to teach. There she met Bill Prentice, whom she married on June 14, 1949. They moved back to Fargo where they raised their four children.

Jean went back to MSU and received another teaching degree. She worked in the Fargo Catholic School system until her retirement. A great teacher whom loved her job, she also enjoyed the teachers she worked with. Jean was always active in education. Jean received a National Teaching award, but what was important to her was the interactions with her students. She had a gift to make learning fun.

After Jean retired, she kept on teaching. She worked for MSU in the natural sciences area using her great knowledge in birds and area nature. At NDSU, Jean spoke on panels of North Dakota History. Teaching and helping her students to enjoy learning is a talent she shared her entire life, to the benefit of many. Activities also included family time, her clubs at the YWCA, and the First Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children, Sally (Brian) Kvebak, Clitherall, MN, Marty (Henry Mott), Roseville, MN, David (Joe Goode), Campton Hills, IL, Dick (Renee Huff), Moorhead, MN; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
